History of Us
a tragicomedy with a host
Andy's parents have unreasonable objections to his engagement. That shouldn't make any difference, should it?
Andy's difficulty telling his parents about their engagement is Sara's first red flag that something is up. Can they avoid letting their union cause a break with Andy's family? Will they ever understand the real reason for his parents' objection to the match?
Judaism, the Holocaust, and the theatre history are among the play's themes. Sara tells us the story in a series of flashbacks, frequently having the characters act out scenes to illustrate what a false, theatrical position she feels she's been put in. But when she and Andy get to the fear at the core of his father's objection, things become all too real.
