Must people change so constantly?

Their fickleness depresses me.

They change their hair. They change their aims.

They change their minds. They change their names.

They move away. They buy new houses.

They change their jobs. They change their spouses.

And nowadays, to truly vex,

Extremists even change their sex!

I wish they'd stop it and stay still;

The constant motion makes me ill.

It makes me think of selves I've shed,

The changes past—and those ahead.
